Conscious Consumption is the pressing need of our times, especially when it comes to electricity. This has become even more critical given our increasing population and reliance on hydel based power which is susceptible to the vagaries of nature.
Bang* designed an energy meter to measure production, supply, and consumption of energy (electricity) at residences(primarily) and commercial establishments. It is estimated that there will be about 15 percent energy saving through implementation of new meters. Smart Energy Meters that are software based, power efficient devices accurately track energy consumption and perform computation of load requirements. Such meters can remotely transfer information to the power companies saving operational costs such as manual meter reading. They could be used in innovative "power plans" such as prepaid power to the house or to the rooms or even to unique appliances as desired.
