An inverter never comes as an appliance but a motley crew of transformers, batteries and shoddily made racks. To add more woe to this space guzzling contraption, the batteries would always leak, staining the floor tiles and create a potential hazard if any kid were to stray near. This contraption would therefore be banished to the garages, under the stairwells, anywhere but not in sight. And if it did conk out during an emergency, then woe betide the person who would be venturing in the dark to fix it.
These were amongst some of the findings that our contextual inquiry found during a survey of existing and potential users of inverters. Another problem was the frequent charging and discharging of the inverter batteries during vacations when the family was away. This led to unnecessary rise in billings and a drain on battery life. Bang* provided the strategy and configuration layouts to BPL deciding in the use of dry batteries, creating intelligent modes for charging and last but not the least creating a self contained appliance, compact, mobile and easily manageable.
