BEL had a sturdy, reliable Surgical Floor Stand that was quite affordable to entry level doctors. Where it lacked was in design finesse required to communicate its value to an hitherto unexplored audience, the world export market. BEL looked to Bang* to deliver a solution that provided some improvement in terms of features and in looks rivalled the models in the world market.
We kicked off this project with an in depth study of the product and its users, in use, in storage and during service. One key element we identified was that the duration of cataract surgery is quite small and that the opening if left untended tends to close and heal itself. This eventuality can occur if the illuminating lamp fuses during surgery and a replacement takes up time. Whilst bulb changers were nothing new, we proposed to build one in our product as there was no model with this feature in the entry level market. Along the way we decided to re-look at the details and manufacturing processes involved to help create a solution that could hold its own ground in terms of world class look and feel.
